Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research (WISER) Kickoff Celebration

IIT students, faculty, and staff are invited to celebrate the launch of a major university initiative at the McCormick Tribune Campus Center in McCloska Auditorium. IIT will be celebrating the formation of the Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research (WISER) as well as honoring Trustee Ralph Wanger, whose generosity made the institute possible. WISER will be the foundation of a campus-wide energy sustainability effort and create important learning opportunities for students and faculty from across the disciplines.
The WISER celebration will begin at 1:30 pm with an academic colloquium featuring IIT faculty and a plenary address by IIT alumnus Hans Maru, an international expert in fuel cell technology. Other speakers will address topics such as renewable energy and power electronics.
A reception honoring Ralph Wanger will follow at 5 pm featuring a special performance by Chicago theater group The Neo-Futurists. Also featured will be radio-controlled electric racecars powered by lithium-ion battery technology developed in IITs Renewable Energy Program. The cars will be racing on a student-designed course.
Ralph Wanger is an IIT board of trustees member and former chief investment officer and president of Wanger Asset Management, which he founded in 1992. He managed the Acorn Fund from 1970 till his retirement in 2003, and he has been featured in national magazines and newspapers such as Barrons, Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Fortune.
